Why do I want to lose weight? Let me count the ways…

(I think it’s important to have clear reasons for why I want to lose the weight. Hopefully that will keep me motivated. I’ll be adding more to this list over time.)

1. I want to be healthier

2. I want to wear nice clothes

3. I want to feel comfortable when I’m sitting, standing, lying down – right now, most of the time, something hurts

4. I want to sit down in an airplane seat and not be terrified that the safety belt won’t reach across my tummy (this has never yet actually been a problem, but it’s something I always worry about.)

5. I want to be able to go into any clothing shop and know I can buy something

6. I don’t want to feel like it’s my fault the train is crowded today

7. I want to be able to have children in the near future

8. I want to be able to see those children grow up

9. I want to be able to play with those children without getting tired

10. I want to have more energy

11. I don’t want to get out of breath just because I walked up a few stairs or a small hill

12. I want to be more attractive to my husband

13. I want to like what I see when I look in the mirror

14. I want to be able to wear a short skirt – something I never did in my teens or 20s.

15. I want to have more space in my suitcase when I go on trips. Size 22 jeans take up a lot of space!

16. I want to wear a two-piece bathing suit – something I have never done, ever.

17. I want to be more confident

18. I want to make a better first impression at job interviews

19. I want to protect my knees, hips and other joints – although I’m worried it might be too late

20. I want my husband to be able to pick me up – without me worrying that he’ll hurt himself

21. I don’t want to draw attention to myself in negative ways
